A Message from the South Croydon Benefice

Dear all

After fifty days of Easter, culminating at the Feast of Pentecost, we are now firmly back in 'ordinary time'. Although it might seem very appealing to have something 'ordinary' at the moment, in this context 'ordinary' means 'ordered' rather than 'normal'. In ordinary time, we settle into the regular pattern of Christian life that fills the weeks between feasts (like Christmas and Easter) and fasts (especially Lent).

Across the country, life is beginning to feel a bit more normal for some, if not quite ordinary! As well as shops reopening, churches are now permitted to open for private prayer. Our churches will be open from Wednesday 17th June at the following times:

St Peter's: Wednesday (10am-11am), Sunday (3.30pm-4.30pm)
St Augustine's: Thursday (5pm-6pm), Sunday (2pm-3pm)

The churches have been set up so that we can keep social distance. If several people arrive at once, you may have to queue briefly so that everyone has a chance to use the hand gel that is provided. Please only sit with members of your household. There is a one way system so that you enter and exit by different doors (please follow the signs). We look forward to welcoming you if you are able to attend; services remain online only for the time being.

Gardeners at St. Peter's have been working in St Peter's Churchyard over the years.  As we move from spring to Summer the flowers begin to look their best. The Memorial Rose Garden planted last year will bring colour to the southeastern corner of the church.
